Author Lara Bruni Interview

ree

You recently switched to being a full-time author! How does that feel?

A little scary. But I'm also excited for what the future will bring!

You have written paranormal romance, contemporary romance and romantic suspense books. Is there another genre you'd like to explore?

I have so many plans for future books! I'm currently writing a spicy rom-com that I plan on making into a 3 book series. As far as genre's, as of right now I plan on sticking to those. I'm also going to try my hand at something even darker than Bloodmoon & Creature. When it comes to open door, I want to rip that door off its hinges, throw it in a fire and burn it to ash. I also have Rock Star and Billionaire plans in the works for next year.

What do you think is the best investment an indie author can make?

An investment in themselves. Do what brings you joy.

How long does it typically take you to write a book?

Typically a couple of months. But now that I can write anytime I want, I'm writing 3000-5000 words a day, which means I can cut that time in half.

Which book was the most difficult to write?

My first book Dark In Blood. I've always been an avid reader and have wanted to write since I was a kid. Stephen King says you should read the types of books you want to write. But all the reading in the world doesn't prepare you for actually writing one. But once I really understood what my characters were telling me and the more I wrote, the easier it became. I started out as a "Pantser" but the more I write the more I plot, too. I keep a pen and paper on my nightstand so I don't forget any idea no matter how small.

What is something unique about your writing style?

That's a really hard question. Honestly? I really don't think my style is all that unique. Another way I could answer that question would probably be that I use speech to text sometimes. It can be faster than typing, especially when my hands get tired.

Do you find that your environment affects your writing?

Yes! I need silence.

What is one thing you know now that you wish you had known when you started writing?

What to do after! I should have set up my books through Ingram first so my first few books could've been in stores. I'm still working on that. For future books, that's the plan. I also spent a lot of money on marketing before I understood you don't need to be anything but strategic. You can set up sponsered ads for a couple of dollars a day. Social networking is super important. I'm so thankful for all the support I've received from other authors and I am more than happy to support others as well. Word of mouth is key.
