Can you tell us a little bit about how Reverie was inspired by a dream?
I had the same dream for three weeks, and I never repeat dreams. In it, I was in somewhere that looked like Scotland/Ireland – lots of green and wildflowers and seaside cliffs. I was riding a dragon, and I knew that I had to wake up, but didn’t want to because the dream life felt like home. After the third week I made myself write the dream down because it wouldn’t leave me alone. And four weeks later, the first draft of Reverie was done.
When do you get the most writing done?
It’s hard to say because my day-to-day life is unpredictable. I try to get most of it done at night with a cup of mint tea and a sweet treat. Some days, I'm able to get a lot done in the afternoon, but those days are few and far between.
How did it feel when you first held your finished book in your hands?
I didn’t believe it was real. I saw it in my hands and felt it, and still I thought, “Did I really write a whole book?” Even now I’ll hold it with a certain level of awe and disbelief!

With which character or aspect of your book do you identify the most?
My sister calls me an Aisling sun, Amerie rising. I identify the most with Aisling. I wrote her at a vulnerable time in my life and her emotions were the best, healthiest way to express mine. I feel that she and I would be very good friends if she was real. But Amerie was the easiest to write. She is my unfiltered thoughts and my Aries placement in full force. Quick to anger, fiery, loves to fight, but intensely loyal and passionate.
What is the best part of being an indie author?
Complete control. I don’t have anyone in my ear telling me to tweak something to align with someone else’s ideas or values. I can be true to myself and put out something that I'm proud of with no interference from anyone else.
What songs from Reverie's playlist are your favorite?
I can’t choose a favorite, and I swear I did try. But every song was chosen for a specific reason, and none of them would be a skip for me. Any of the Sleep Token songs would probably be the ones I play first!
Did you do anything to celebrate Reverie's release?
I did not do anything for Reverie’s release, though I should have. I think for the sequel I will have ice cream and some Oyster Bay Sauv Blanc for dinner.
Is there anything you can tell us about Reverie's sequel?
I want to tell you everything but it would ruin it! What I will say: In Reverie, we heard about the Cruento. In the sequel, we will experience them. Things will be dark and hard and brutal, but Aisling’s biggest asset is her unyielding hope, and I think readers should follow her lead.
